VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering has always been an important part of my life. Some of the most passionate people that I know, I have met through my volunteer work. Helping others has allowed me to hone my personal and professional skills, and to develop new ones.
Partners in Learning
Partners in Learning is a non-profit offering two programs: Manos, a Spanish-English dual language preschool, and West Side Learning Center, an adult education and career center that caters to non-native English speakers. Through the communications organization comm.UNITY, I led a team to redesign Partners in Learning's website and to develop a promotional documentary for them. I spoke with teachers, administrators, and students in the program to learn how Partners in Learning affects lives. The promotional documentary was shown at an annual fundraising event, and an edit of it is sent when the organization applies for grants.
WILSON PARK COMMUNITY CENTER
I served as a tutor for elementary school students at the Wilson Park Community Center during my freshman year. I helped students with homework, supervised them on the playground and in the computer lab, and offered guidance and mentorship.
AGCS EARLY LEARNING CENTER COURTYARD REVITALIZATION
As a high school senior, I planned and carried out the renovation of the courtyard at a local elementary school in pursuit of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. The project took over a year from initial conception to final completion, hundreds of dollars worth of materials, and more than a dozen volunteers. I coordinated with local businesses to secure donations, and worked with the school to ensure the project was fulfilling their needs.
THE GARAGE COMMUNITY AND YOUTH CENTER
I volunteered as a live music coordinator and promoter for The Garage Community and Youth Center in West Grove, PA. I booked artists, coordinated logistics, promoted the events, and handled live sound and lighting. I gave many local bands and musicians a stage on which to perform, and helped The Garage achieve its mission of empowering youth to reach their potential.
